Benefits of Laser Hair Removal

The primary perk of laser hair removal treatments is that they disrupt hair growth for long periods of time. Multiple treatments are needed to achieve lifelong results, though a reduction in thickness and total quantity of hair is common.

There will be some pain, but it is very mild and can be managed using a variety of unique strategies. Every person’s pain tolerance will be a bit different, though many of our patients report that their treatments are even less painful than waxing. Our providers will ensure that the area is properly numbed, if necessary, before treatment begins, and they will be able to give you specific instructions for aftercare that will help to limit your discomfort.

Laser hair removal treatments are quite quick. Although you will need several treatments in order to receive optimal results, each pulse emitted by the laser will last for only a fraction of a second.

These treatments are applicable to all areas of the body both large and small. At Uderm, our laser hair removal specialists often target the legs, bikini line, chest, back, stomach, and face, though your options are endless!

How It Works

As you would expect given the name of this procedure, treatments are completed using a specialized laser. Uderm uses a Diode 810 laser which delivers controlled pulses of light converted into energy and targets the hair follicles beneath your skin. This laser damages the hair follicles and prevent them from producing any more hair and your can expect the existing hair to begin falling out within 7-10 days after your treatment. The Diode 810 laser is best for laser hair removal treatments because it is safe for all skin types.

That is really all there is to it! Your provider will check to make sure that you are not in any significant pain, and will adjust if needed to make you more comfortable.

How to Prepare for Laser Hair Removal

Up to 6 weeks before you plan on getting laser hair removal, you should avoid plucking and waxing. Laser hair removal targets the roots of the hair, and removing them may result in an ineffective procedure. You should also avoid sun exposure for the same amount of time. It may lessen the effect of laser hair removal and possibly cause complications afterwards.

Setting Your Expectations

Laser hair removal treatments will vary in length, cost, and the total number of sessions needed depends upon the patient’s target areas. For example, treatment of the face will likely only require a few treatments lasting approximately 15 minutes each, while treatment for both legs will be more extensive.

Before the Treatment

Just before your treatment, your hair will be trimmed down to a few millimeters. The equipment is then adjusted for your personal hair factors such as thickness, color and location. You and your provider will then wear protective eye gear. You may be asked to put on a coat of cold gel or cooling device. This is doneo protect the outer layers of your skin.

During the Treatment

The actual laser hair removal treatment is done in small pulses. You may experience small stinging sensations depending on the sensitivity of the area you’re receiving the treatment. The length of the procedure depends on many factors such as the size of location as well as the thickness and amount of hair. Your provider will observe your skin for a few minutes afterwards to make sure there are no bad reactions. You will then be given ice packs and usually some kind of anti-inflammatory lotion or cold water compress to soothe discomfort.

Laser hair removal treatment is done again in 4-6 weeks and repeated until the hair stops growing.
