Markiza Cooper, MD, FAAD

Dr. Cooper is a board-certified dermatologist specializing in medical, pediatric, and surgical dermatology. She came to East Tennessee from Ukraine alone at the age of 19. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry/Cellular and Molecular Biology from the University of Tennessee and graduated summa cum laude while working full time at a restaurant in the Smokey Mountains. She obtained her Medical Doctorate from East Tennessee State University James H Quillen College of Medicine, where she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. Dr. Cooper completed her internship and residency at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. Her training included working at all three Mayo Clinic sites with vast exposure to adult and pediatric dermatology under the guidance of world-renowned experts in the field who also encouraged her passion for teaching.

Upon graduation Dr. Cooper joined Dermatology Associates of Tallahassee, where she served as faculty for the Florida State University residency program and became a founder of the Jacksonville branch called Dermatology SouthEast – Southside. She spent almost five years building a successful practice and will be truly missed by many grateful patients and her devoted work team.

In 2024 Dr. Cooper became one of 20 alumni of the Florida Medical Association Physician Leadership Academy. She held leadership roles for several state committees advocating for patients and physicians and served as President of Jacksonville Dermatology Society for the past two years.

Outside of work Dr. Cooper enjoys hiking, rock climbing, horse riding and all things outdoors. She is an aspiring world traveler and a die-hard Tennessee Volunteers fan. Dr. Cooper is beyond excited to join the Uderm team and looks forward to providing diverse and highest quality dermatology care to the community she calls home.
